The European Reminiscence Network
The European Reminiscence Network aims to promote best practice in reminiscence work and to share experience across national frontiers. The partners work together to develop international projects, focusing on particular areas of reminiscence work. We seek co-operation with groups and individuals across Europe with relevant interests and skills, and especially those with a cross-cultural and inter-generational perspective.
Sites and signs of Remembrance in London
For the “Sites and Signs of Remembrance” project, which became known as SISIE, we wished to explore the links between the Remembrance work of our new partners in Germany and Poland and to share with them our experience of reminiscence work and especially of dramatising memories.

The European Reminiscence Network, based in London, focused on creative reminiscence work with ethnic minority elders, recording and transcribing the stories they told. We then went on to make several short original reminiscence theatre pieces celebrating the elders’ lives. The performances were given by the elders themselves, university drama students and primary school children, who worked alongside the elders.
The processes and products of the London project are shared in the following pages, starting with short introductions to reminiscence work, inter-cultural and inter-generational work, and collecting memories.
